Moms, are you built to be an entrepreneur?
HERE ARE FIVE QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU FIGURE OUT THE ANSWER
Earlier today I randomly clicked on a Gary Vaynerchuk YouTube video (he’s king of the swears, so brace yourself and put on headphones) about being an entrepreneur. While I only caught the intro (because ya know I had to dash over here and write this post for you all), I was hit with a bomb of brilliance -- he reminded me that not everyone is built to be an entrepreneur.
Hearing him so colorfully verbalize what entrepreneurship takes made me realize how important it is to know up front if owning your own business is in the stars.
Just like not everyone can get away with wearing hammer pants and crop tops, not every woman is meant to run a business out of her home.
And if you have been on the fence for awhile, or struggling to keep your business afloat, you might need to step back and ask yourself if you were meant to run your own business. Fast track the thinking process by asking yourself just five critical questions.
Are you built to be an entrepreneur, solopreneur, or mompreneur?
(1) Are you good at navigating chaos to pick and choose what you want to do?
If you get stressed out or panic in crazy situations, rethink owning your own business.
(2) Do you know who you REALLY are?
This is the first step in my coaching. I need all moms to reconnect with who they were before they had kids and tie that into who they want to be in the future. Unearthing this will help you find who are at your core and how your business will mesh with your life (a working lifestyle).
(3) Can you make decisions and change your mind quickly and with zero regrets?
I call this the bob and weave of running a business. No day is the same as the last. Much like life with kids.
(4) How do you define failures?
We teach our kids this lesson regularly (if you don’t, read this article and start).
(5) Do you have a ridiculous amount of passion for what you do (or want to do)?
If you aren’t driven by your work, you won’t be happy, and your business will suffer.
Okay… now what?
👉 Notice how several of those are core traits of your average mom?
This is exactly why I believe that moms make phenomenal businesses owners — we’re wired to lead. And let’s face it, if we can survive the wild west of our homes, can operate on little sleep, and are well versed in going unshowered for days on end, we can navigate the business world, too.
👉 If you answered the questions truthfully and said “no” to three or more, you’ll need to take a deeper look at the world of the working self-governed.
Don’t stress about it. You’ve still got options to help you find a life outside of motherhood.
If you find that you’re not quite made for the life of an entrepreneur, and you still want to work from home, no problem. There are several jobs you can do without the mind blowing demands of owning your own business. Consider a network marketing company or pairing up with another mom to either start something together or in a support role to her business.
