Last-minute Valentine Idea For Your Tween & Teen

You’re not alone—most parents agree and are over the excess. But you don’t have to ditch the entire holiday. There are easy ways to celebrate every holiday.

Here's an easy to execute, last-minute Valentine idea for your tween and teen. It’s also an excellent opportunity to connect with and support your kids. (Bonus: it’s a perfect substitution for the traditional candy-filled holiday!)

THE VALENTINE DOOR:
Make it easy. Make it memorable.

Years ago, I started the tradition of covering my kid’s bedroom doors with paper hearts adorned with positive traits and characteristics. As time has passed, this simple Valentine idea has become a much-anticipated (and low-effort) tradition.

Tip: Choose a mix of present and future aspirational words for your kids.

① What wonderful qualities do they have today?

② What do they love about themselves?

③ What are some traits you would like them to work on?

Now all you need is paper, scissors, mild crafting abilities, a pen, and tape. And maybe a thesaurus? 😆

Pro tip: Prep the hearts a day or two before Valentine’s day and on February 13th, after they're in bed, tape the hearts to the doors. Easy peasy! And if you have teens, you can most likely get away with doing it early on Valentine’s day. 😉

THAT’S IT! DON’T OVERTHINK IT.

From birthday parties to Easter to Elf on the Shelf, the expectations are high. But it doesn’t have to stress you out or make you feel “less than” your parenting peers.

Do what works for you and maybe you'll discover a new, simple tradition your kids will pass onto their kids?

Let’s give a high five for simple ways to celebrate! 😬 🙌

P.S. Forever ago, I found this idea online, but sadly can’t give proper credit. Whosever it was, thank you! I’m indebted. You’ve helped me take the pressure off of myself and hundreds of other parents!

P.P.S. Not feeling crafty? Grab a heart-shaped paper punch at Michaels or these simple red heart gift tags from Amazon*.

*I only link to things I really like and use and occasionally my amazon links will be affiliate... which means I might get .08 or so if you buy from them. But every penny counts, right? 😃
